When is healing considered to be successful? Is it when a client is diagnosed with an incurable disease that goes into remission and completely disappears? Is it when a child paralyzed from an auto accident and told she'll never walk again regains the ability to walk and later becomes a champion marathon runner? Both of these examples could be classified as genuine healings by most people's standards. What is behind the experience of healing and why do some people heal while others do not? Modern day research is able to map how a change in our beliefs and attitudes results in subsequent changes in our body's chemistry which in turn leads to the restructuring of our very cell tissue and altering of our DNA? Is this where healing resides - in our beliefs and attitudes? Our beliefs and attitudes filter our perceptions and color the way we interpret our world. They are the way we choose to orient to the 'field of intention,' that sticky subatomic world that animates and gives life to all material reality. I call it THE PREGNANT VOID! Could it be the way we choose to live our ordinary daily lives is where the experience of healing resides? I'd like to recount a story about a client, I'll call her Fran, who phoned to ask if she could schedule an in-home healing session for her husband. I found this to be a rather curious request as Fran had previously told me her husband was not open to having a session with me despite her encouragement to give it a try. "It's just not his thing," she told me one day. I could hear the frustration in Fran's voice at her husband's resistance to trying something new. I wondered why she seemed so attached to the idea of Jack having a session with me? Anyway, Jack had been diagnosed with stomach cancer a few months back and was not expected to live much longer. He was under hospice care at home. When I arrived at their home Fran escorted me into her husband's room. As I entered the room Jack opened his eyes and grinned. "Well," he said, "I finally get to have an experience of what my wife's always going on about." We began his session with a short attunement. Fran was given the okay to stay in the room while I performed the procedures indicated. She sat quietly in a corner of the room, eyes closed. Soft lullaby music of Stephen Halpern played in the background. I administered a drop of PurePlant Essentials Heart Soothe as indicated through an AromaTest™ about mid-way through Jack's session. Jack smiled peacefully as he inhaled the aroma and said, "Ah, that's good." He was obviously relaxing nicely and enjoying himself immensely during our time together. As I concluded the session Jack smiled blissfully, tears in his eyes and said, "I feel no pain. Thank you for seeing me. Now I understand," and closed his eyes, drifting off for a moment. I said good-bye to Fran, hugging and thanking her for giving me the opportunity to work with her husband Jack. The hour spent with him had been a very moving experience for me as I couldn't help but remember my own father's passing recently. He had also died from stomach cancer. I could tell Jack didn't have many more days to live. A week later Fran phoned to say her Jack had passed away. She thanked me for offering my services to him again. Then recounted what happened after Jack's session with me. "Physically, she told me, "Jack experienced no more of the intense pain from his cancer which was remarkable, but the truly amazing thing was that he was finally able to talk about our son," I'll call him Mark. Fran and Jack's son, Mark, had died tragically in an auto accident many years previous. The memory of the loss was just too painful for Jack and he'd erased their son from his memory and would never speak of him. "After his session with you," said Fran, "Jack spoke openly and lovingly of Mark with no trace of the former grief he'd born for so many years. We both enjoyed sharing our warm memories and our love for Mark. It felt very completing to finally talk openly about Mark's death. I feel we honored our son's memory and the love we all shared." Fran then told me how Jack had experienced a 'falling out' with his brother, I'll call him Paul, many years before and how they hadn't spoken in more than thirty years. Jack initiated a reconnection with his brother, Paul, after his session with me. Paul had responded by coming to be with his brother, Jack. "They shared boyhood stories and laughed easily together," Fran told me and, "Paul was holding Jack's hand as he passed away." Fran concluded her story with, "When my Jack opened to having a healing session with you, he was opening his heart to heal those old wounds he'd been nursing for so many years, and God bless him he got his healing." I thanked Fran for sharing her incredible story with me. It's my feeling that both Fran and Jack experienced genuine healing. I was honored to facilitate what they were open to receiving. After many years of serving as a channel of healing for people I have realized healing is available to each of us in each moment if we are open to it. Most of the time we resist it and push it away. We allow our judgments, the interpretations we give to our life experiences to block us from allowing the healing power of love into our lives. Each of us could be plugged into our source for a steady supply of joy juice yet stubbornly we resist it, refusing to be nourished from God's infinite supply. Fran's story reaffirmed my role as a healing arts practitioner, that of being a witness to other's pain and suffering without identifying them with it, but rather to see their infinite capacity for transformation and healing and mirror that back to them instead. The absolute peace and acceptance of whatever is, without the need to struggle against it or to change it, is truly a worthy practice! Yours in health,
